At first glance Towhee looks like any other traditional summer camp.

Located on a forested lakefront property in Haliburton, Towhee has a pristine beach, docks, a water trampoline, rustic cabins, a large dining hall, the Harmony Hut and Art Hut. Children and youth participate in waterfront activities, arts and crafts and music, an EXCEL Program with high and low ropes course challenges and a climbing wall, kayaking, canoeing, out-tripping, and nightly campfires.

However, Towhee is much more than a summer camp; Towhee is an innovative therapeutic intervention for children and youth with learning disabilities and mental health issues (LDMH), with the added social, physical and emotional benefits of an over-night summer camp experience in a natural and restorative setting.

At Towhee, we find creative ways to maximize our campers’ enjoyment and provide appropriate, highly-individualized accommodations for children and youth with LDMH. In this natural setting, children and youth experience a change from city, school and other stresses they face on a daily basis.
