Towhee is a summer residential program delivered by Child Development Institute’s Integra Program. Child Development Institute is the only accredited children’s mental health centre in Canada specializing in the treatment of children, youth and their families who are dealing with mental health issues complicated by learning disabilities (LDMH).

Towhee is designed for children and youth between the ages of 10 and 18 who have a learning disability and experience social, emotional, mental health and/or behavioural problems.

Located in Haliburton, Ontario, Towhee provides participants with an immersive experience where they can learn to express themselves and regulate their emotions through adventure-based learning programs complete with canoe tripping, waterfront activities, music, art, a high ropes course and a climbing wall.

Sessions range from two to three weeks over the course of July and August, and the sessions are filled based on each participant’s age, maturity and fit with an appropriate cabin group.

At Towhee, we work had to ensure every participant feels accepted and is celebrated for their unique talents. We provide specialized assistance and group experiences so that participants can maximize their social competence and enjoy the magic of belonging.
