Cidel Asset Management makes Family Day donation to CDI
We are delighted to thank Cidel Asset Management for their generous Family Day donation to Child Development Institute. This year, Cidel has directed their donation to the Towhee Summer Residential Program, to provide bursary support for a child with learning disabilities and mental health issues (LDMH) to attend this specialized camp for two weeks this summer.
James Porter of Cidel said, “Our Family Day Initiative is becoming something of a tradition for us, and reflects our commitment to families and championing mental health programs that help families support their children. We are pleased to recognize CDI on Family Day, because their programs, including Towhee, help families get better together.”
Towhee families pay fees for the program that are subsidized through donations from generous individuals and organizations who respond to our fundraising appeals. Because Towhee is a therapeutic program, some of our costs are higher than typical summer camps; for example, we are required to provide a 2:1 camper to counsellor ratio, and hire highly-educated and experienced staff. Towhee also delivers the Integra Program’s mental health intervention for children and youth with learning disabilities, and has ongoing consultation from CDI’s clinical staff throughout the year, ensuring our clients have great experiences. Even with subsidized fees, each summer about 30 families receive bursary support.
“We are so grateful to Cidel for their donation to this program. Because of their support, one child this summer will be given an opportunity to celebrate their amazing strengths and abilities, learn new skills, build their resilience and self-confidence, have fun and make new friends. And their parents will be given respite from the stress and worry they feel every day, knowing for these two weeks their child is in a safe, restorative, and supportive place,” said Nicola Bangham, Director of Towhee.
Along with this generous contribution, Cidel Asset Management helped CDI raise critical funds for our Family Violence Services, as a Chef Sponsor for our Taste of Home Evening – Recipes My Mother Taught Me fundraising event last June.
