Volunteer
We are looking for energetic, creative and motivated individuals to help us enrich the lives of children and families. In turn, we can provide a meaningful volunteer experience that will leave a lasting impression!
Volunteers may work one-on-one with a child, assist with a group, provide child care, offer their support to a child-family resource centre, or take part in special activities such as fun fairs, holiday parties, and fundraising events. And, if you have special skills related to graphic design, marketing, fundraising, or computers, we'd love to hear from you.
Several volunteer opportunities are always open:
Tutors
Tutors are matched up with individual children to provide homework help, or help in a specific area, such as reading or math. Tutoring is typically done once a week, in the child's home or neighbourhood library.
Individual Befriending
Many children benefit from the individual attention of a one-on-one relationship with a special friend. Special friends are role models and mentors. They provide emotional and social support to a child, and connect the child with a local community centre. Individual Befriending involves a commitment of about two hours a week.
Activity Group Leader
These individuals help lead kids through various fun activities, from arts and crafts, to sports and games, all while reinforcing what they've learned in their group programs. Activity Groups run at our St. Clair site from 6-8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, during the school year.
Homework Club
The Homework Club runs on Wednesday nights at our St.Clair site from 5-6:30pm. Tutors work with one or two children on the homework that they bring to the club - typically math and reading.
Cooking Volunteer
Assist with cooking dinner and serving it to a group of children or families on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 4pm until 6:30pm at our St. Clair site
Ontario Early Years Centre / Dufferin Mall Family Place
Volunteers play an active role in our Ontario Early Years Centre and our children's drop-in centre in Dufferin Mall. These centres offer opportunities for children to engage in play, arts and crafts, reading and other activities to support their development. Parents have an opportunity to meet other parents, get information from family resource workers, and participate in parenting and child development workshops.
