Intensive Services
Counselling to families with their children in a highly responsive manner (e.g., flexible length of service, location and time of day). Includes family therapy, parent counselling, parent-child work, groups and bridging to other services and resources.
Services are client-centered and geared to family strengths and addressing families’ concerns. Families are actively involved in the planning and decision-making about services. Families’ opinions, views and cultural and spiritual beliefs are respected in setting goals and developing strategies to achieve these goals. The professional skills of staff complement, but do not replace a parent’s special knowledge of his or her child.
Participants may include:
- families with children experiencing social, emotional and/or behaviour difficulties or adjustment issues;
- families with children who may be experiencing a significant transition in their lives;
- children and parents who are willing to explore themes and issues related to their areas of concern;
- families who have, or may experience, obstacles in accessing mental health services.
Group programs offered at any given time depend on client needs and interest. They may include Right From the Start (for parents of children birth to 24 months); Coping with Toddler Behaviour (for parents of children 12- 36 months); Incredible Years (for parents with children aged 4 to 6 years); and Beyond the Basics Years (a ten-week program for parents of children involved with child welfare services. Families involved in group programs may also access counselling services and/or be connected to other supportive community resources as needed.
Services are free and confidential, provided by a team of Child and Family Clinicians and a Community Child Worker. Self-referrals or professional/community referrals.
