Child Care Consultation Services

Consultation services (also known as Special Needs Resource Consultation) to promote inclusion and support for children with special needs in childcare and to increase the capacity of centres to respond to children with Special Needs.  Services are available to all child care centres in the City of Toronto; Child Development Institute Resource Consultants are assigned to certain geographic areas.

Consultation services include individual child and program consultations, as well as education, training and support to staff and parents.  Consultants are involved in assessment of children’s needs, active coordination of services, and developing individualized intervention plans for identified children that will support the child’s optimal development and functioning within the childcare centre. Workshops and the sharing of information and resources are also available to child care staff and parents at the childcare centres, based on identified needs and interests.

For families with children, aged 0–12, who are in child care. The service is requested by the individual child care centre with the consent of the parent.

See CDI's Resource Guide of services for children with special needs in Toronto.
