Research
Child Development Institute is dedicated to generating new knowledge that will increase our understanding of child development, contribute to service excellence in all our program areas, and lead to positive changes for children and their families. We are also committed to sharing research results with others, so that the positive impact on children's lives can be increased exponentially.
Critically, our research provides quality assurance and evaluation to ensure effectiveness of our programs. We are now taking our research to the next level, and developing our training and consulting capacity so that our model programs can be replicated and adapted in many locations, by affiliated children's agencies.
We share our knowledge on best practices regarding children and youth in trouble with the law, including the use of gender-specific interventions, police-community protocols, and risk assessment tools. Our research also enables us to influence policy as well as practice, nationally and internationally.
The Centre for Children Committing Offences (CCCO), our research and training unit, uses a scientist-practitioner model to promote the use of effective interventions to help at-risk children in trouble with the law. While the CCCO is a dedicated research unit with a focus on childhood aggression and antisocial behaviour, all service areas are imbued with CDI's culture of innovation and learning.
We also conduct applied social research in the areas of gender-specific interventions, family violence, child development and parenting. We are developing a critical body of knowledge that informs our practices so that we can provide the highest quality programs to the more than 4,000 children and their families who use our services each year.
